Recently many operating systems have started releasing drive images. Traditionally operating systems were installed from boot media. The user selected installation options from a text or graphical user interface and the operating system was built up step by step. Now may OS distribution are in he form of drive images. You simply copy the image to a drive (spinning, SSD, or flash) and boot the target computer. You can then configure the OS the way you want. This has advantages in that you don't need a monitor on the target computer and installation is very rapid. We will be releasing VortexBox in the form of a drive image as well as a traditional install media. We will also be releasing minimal Linux OS images that can be used as platforms to build other IoT (Internet of Things) applications. The minimal images will have the bare minimum to get an OS running on the target platform. [[available_images|Available images]]
